Alright guys, we’re only two episodes away from the Kourtney and Kim Take New York season finale. After Sunday night’s part one episode, we get a much closer look into the lives of the famous sisters, but more importantly, we get to watch on the sidelines as Kim and Kris’ marriage slowly begins to crumble.

So here’s how this week’s episode went down. Kris’ sister Kaela comes into town to visit. However, Kris conveniently tells Kim the news the day before she’s expected to arrive. While Kim says she loves Kaela, her first words when she hears what should be exciting news is “for what?” That sure sounds like a loving sister to me. Kris doesn’t see why he should have to tell his wife in advance about the visit when it’s his home too and unlike the rest of the Kardashian whipped men, he doesn’t need permission to do stuff. Kim tells Kris that her schedule is just so busy this week that she won’t have much time to spend with the two.

Kourtney and Scott walk around New York and get a caricature drawn of them because Kourtney just hates having pictures of her in the house. Yawn. We see a bunch of scenes of the couple being all couple-y and they even decide to get a painted portrait done because it means a lot to Scott. However, Kourtney sabotages the painting when she asks the artists to put a unibrow on Scott as a joke. When he reveals the masterpiece in front of Kim and Kris, he gets upset that Kourtney made a mockery out of the whole thing. Suddenly, Kris a.k.a Frankenstein gets all Dr. Phil and breaks it down to Kourtney why Scott is so upset and encourages her to apologize. Sigh, rich-people problems.

Back to the important stuff.

When Kaela finally arrives the next day, she like any tourist wants to see and experience New York but poor Kim is just so tired that she decides to get some sleep. She later tells us that because of the tension between her and her hubby, she feels it’s best to avoid his sister altogether. What a great way to handle things, Kim. Kaela quickly begins to pick up on Kim’s cold shoulder and asks Scott and Kris if she’s upset about something because unlike Kim, Kaela really wants to get to know her new sister-in-law. Even Scott begins to chime in on the couple’s lack of communication. Scott reveals to Kaela that Kim had no idea she was coming to visit and had a lot of pre-scheduled work commitments for that week. Kaela later sends Kim a text apologizing for disrupting her busy week and decides to cut her trip short and heads back home. Kris gives it to Kim and tells her that his sister is probably over her too busy for everyone attitude.

Ironically, when Kim receives a call from the medium, John Edward, who she so badly wants to connect with in hopes to hear from her dad again, she tells him she will move whatever she has to around in order to make it work. If only she would employ that same effort to her marriage. Kim takes his call as a sign that it’s meant to be. Well of course he returned her call. What kind of businessman would pass up an opportunity for free publicity? Anyway, Kris tells Kim he doesn’t agree with speaking to the dead and feels he has a conviction from God to stand strong against such things. Despite his adamant feelings towards it, Kim goes ahead and does it anyway. But wait, she justifies it perfectly. You see, Kim says that because of his strong religious beliefs and the fact that he hasn’t lost anyone close to him before, she should just hide it from him not talk to him about it, like at all. Like her pale-skinned, white haired friend says, that sh*t is cray.

Like Kris, Kourtney is against the idea of seeing a medium but decides to go along with it for Kim’s sake. A true professional medium, John digs deep with the sisters bringing up unresolved family issues revolving their father’s passing. But what really hits home with Kim is when he mentions her previous divorce. We see Kim break down at this point, but it’s not until he leaves where she reveals to Kourtney in the last remaining minute of the show that she doesn’t want to be married anymore. Dun, dun, dun.

Only one more week until we finally see how it all goes down!

After 7 years of marriage Heidi and Seal announced their divorce this past weekend.

The couple’s rep released this statement:

“While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate.

“We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart.

“This is an amicable process and protecting the wellbeing of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition.

“We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children’s sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy.”

Tabloids are now claiming that Heidi filed for divorce because of her husband’s volatile temper. Heidi and Seal got married in Mexico right after they announced she was pregnant with their first child together, Henry.

Former famed Penn State Football coach Joe Paterno died on Sunday after suffering from lung cancer.

Age 85, long-time football coach, Joe Paterno died this Sunday after a recent struggle with lung cancer and the stress caused by the child abuse scandal which was brought to light last year.

A statement released by Paterno’s family says that he “died as he lived. He fought hard until the end, stayed positive, thought only of others and constantly reminded everyone of how blessed his life had been”.

“He was the most successful head coach in the history of major college football”, writes Washington Post, “but the circumstances of his dismissal led to a stain both on the football program and the man who ran it for so long”.

Joe Paterno was fired at age 84 after the child abuse scandal surfaced in the media. One of his former assistants, Jerry Sandusky, had been observed abusing a young boy in a shower at the Penn State’s football facility. Although Paterno claimed he did not know how to handle it at the time, he did alert the Dean, who decided not to immediately alert the police. The college’s board of trustees decided to hold Paterno accountable for his abdication of leadership.

All in all, after Joe Paterno’s death, his legacy lives on. The teams he coached won 409 games during his 46 season tenure as head coach at Penn State.

Nicki Minaj released her new video for the song, Stupid Hoe, off of her upcoming album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. The video was directed by the one and only Hype Williams and although the song is not one of my favorites, it definitely does not lack creativity. The video includes Nicki’s theatrics coupled with her vivacious and diva-licious wigs, shots of her world famous assets and even a tiger scene. Hopefully, her new album treats us girlie girls to songs like Fly and Moment for Life.

In a time of economic uncertainty, many people are settling for occupations that offer stability and decent wages instead of pursuing the profession of their dreams. There are, however, exceptions, and the career of the hair stylist is a wonderful example of an emotionally fulfilling job with great pay and even greater opportunities like flexible hours, travel, glamorous gigs in show business and the possibility of opening your own salon.

“Being a part of someone’s personal transformation is a privilege that is quite intimate and delicate,” says Taylor Smits, a Master Stylist, Educator, and Hair Colour Creative Director for Ego Lifestyle Salon in Vancouver, B.C. “When you know that you got it right on the money and you see confidence and satisfaction in someone’s eyes, it’s an amazing feeling.” Smits has worked as a dual specialist at Ego Lifestyle Salon for the past six and a half years, and his career has taken him across the country and abroad—from Milan to New York Fashion Week—where he’s worked backstage styling top models. He teaches bi-weekly at two Vancouver hair schools: the Aveda Academy Salon on Robson Street and Aveda Institute Vancouver in Gastown, and in 2009, he was named one of Vancouver’s Top 5 Stylists by Metro Magazine.

“I work in an open learning environment where knowledge is freely passed between myself and my peers,” he says. Smits charges $75 for a cut, and his colour services start at $115 for a new growth application and range up to $180 for a full head of highlights; appointments can include 2 to 4 add-on services. He receives a percentage of each service on a commission structure, and also on any retail he sells. He works 4 days a week for 10 hours a day, and sees a new guest every 45 minutes.

“My guests are very generous with gratuities,” Smits says.

As an Educator, Smits recommends choosing the Aveda Institute over other hair schools. “Advanced education is a priority,” he says. “Students are learning from experienced educators, and have opportunities to take exclusive classes from world-renowned guest artists. As a stylist for Aveda, you become part of a vast network of other stylists and educators. You are given access to an extensive education calendar with classes taught around North America by top industry experts. Every couple of years Aveda puts on massive supershows [Congress, Master Jam] where Aveda global educators and guest artists present. You also get to work with Aveda’s phenomenal product line, and our newly reworked Full Spectrum hair colour, which is up to 99 per cent naturally derived—yet it delivers fashion forward results.” Aveda is an environmentally-conscious beauty brand, the first beauty company in the world to be manufactured entirely using wind turbine energy. The company also raises money and awareness throughout the year for important causes like WaterCan and breast cancer.

Smits credits people skills and an unparalleled approach to pleasing customers as the points of difference that keep his guests loyal. “We consider our clients to be guests in our chair, and we like to give our guests an experience they will remember,” he says. “With every hair cut we begin the service with a consultation, followed by a Stress Relieving Experience which includes a neck and shoulder massage. With every hair colour service a guest has a luxurious hand massage. After a fabulous cut or colour, guests are recommended home care products and receive a complimentary makeup finishing touch.” Smits also suggests reaching out to new clientele: “After almost seven years in the industry I still promote myself with introductory cards, so new guests of the salon receive discounts on their first visit. The best way to promote yourself is through word of mouth from your guests!”

Smits has achieved a lot since his days in Vancouver hair school; but the Master Stylist still considers himself a student: “I like when a guest returns with some constructive criticism about a look that didn’t work, because it always pushes me to be better at what I do and to keep learning,” he expresses. “As they say, ‘You’re only as good as your last haircut!’”
His advice for aspiring stylists?

“Do a lot of research into learning institutes, approach learning with an open mind, stay in touch with your creativity, be inspired by everything around you, and expect to work very hard. Immerse yourself in the industry and make yourself available to assist stylists on shows and shoots as you work your way up. The fastest way to learn and be successful is to surround yourself with people who already are successful.”
Just like an unwanted guest, she’s comes with a ton of baggage otherwise known as menstrual cramps. We find ourselves pigging-out during this time due to cravings or not knowing whether we’re hungry or full. So why not snack on some foods that are healthy for you and work to relieve strong menstrual cramps?!

Great foods to try include:

Pineapples: They contains bromelain, which is an enzyme that aids menstrual cramping by relaxing the uterine muscles.

Low-fat Yogurt: Rich in calcium, yogurt helps by reducing the pain and assisting the body in a natural muscle tone.

Raspberries: Great in fiber which help maintain the body’s hormonal balance.

Eggs, Salmon, Tuna, Romaine Lettuce, Walnuts: All are substantial sources of Omega-3 fats. Not only is it a healthy fat, but the acids help relax the uterine muscles by acting as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Broccoli: Contains a lot of magnesium which is also a great muscle relaxant for your menstrual cramps.

So eat up ladies! Why not get the best of both worlds?!
